The New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA) is renovating an historic 1830s warehouse building into the NOCCA Forum for its Academic Studio program students.
The renovated building will have science laboratories, additional office areas for the NOCCA Institute, space for the Culinary Arts program, and more space for creative arts classes. The building also will house the school’s dining hall adjacent to a courtyard, a bakery, a butchery, a gallery displaying works by NOCCA students, a public café and about 6,000 SF of space for a tenant.
Financing for the $26,000,000 project involves the use of historic rehabilitation tax credits, new market tax credits and a Quality Zone Academy Bond along with monies raised by the NOCCA Institute.
McDonnel is working with John C. Williams Architects on the project which is planned to open for the 2014-15 school year.
