The Xavier Qatar Pharmacy Pavilion is the flagship program of Xavier University of Louisiana. This major addition allows the program to meet the needs of its expanding enrollment and doubles the college’s building area. This five-story, 73,600 square foot pavilion connects to the existing Pharmacy building and to the University’s award winning Library and Resource Center, creating a unified complex around a central courtyard. The pavilion includes classrooms, labs, faculty offices, a large auditorium, and most notably a vivarium for testing pharmaceutical products. The vivarium requires National Institute of Health (NIH) oversight, meaning strict codes concerning materials used in such a facility, and isolation from other parts of the building. The lower two floors contain a 440-seat auditorium (divisible into two 220-seat auditoriums). The third floor includes a state-of-the-art mock pharmacy/skills lab facility, a crucial component of a modern pharmacy degree program. Teaching labs, research labs, and student offices round out the program of the new building, while administrative components and faculty offices are located in renovated space in the existing building. An N.I.H. certified vivarium is located on the 5th level.
